Intern Spotlight: Thumb Plastics, Inc. (TPI)

Welcome to the sixth installment of Gemini Group’s “Intern Spotlight” series, created to celebrate our bright young interns as they build the skills they need to thrive in today’s workplace. The series will feature new interns each week, grouped by Gemini Group location.

 

This week we’re highlighting interns working in various disciplines at Gemini Group‘s two-shot injection molding business unit, Thumb Plastics, Inc. (TPI). They are just three of Gemini Group’s 33 summer interns spread among nine locations and 26 departments. Stay tuned to meet more talented young professionals in next week’s edition.

Dana Weitenberner – Lean Intern

Secondary Education: Bad Axe High School

 

Post-Secondary Education: Cleary University

 

Area of Interest: Business Management

 

Internship Goals: Dana is looking forward to working on projects with the other Lean interns, making TPI more Lean, helping with the quarterly reports, and doing projects on her own that benefit the plant.

 

Interesting Fact: Dana loves Sushi.

Jon Hurlburt– Maintenance Intern

Secondary Education: Williamston High School

 

Post-Secondary Education: Michigan Technological University

 

Area of Interest: Mechanical Engineering

 

Internship Goals: Jon would like to gain insight into typical maintenance procedures, sharpen his hands-on fabrication skills, meet new people in or interested in his field, and learn more about how manufacturing plants operate.

 

Interesting Fact: Jon is the youngest in a set of triplets.

Matt Bowen – CAD Intern

Secondary Education: Elkton Pigeon Bay Port High School

 

Post-Secondary Education: Lake Superior State University

 

Area of Interest: Mechanical Engineering – Robotics

 

Internship Goals: Matt is looking forward to establishing connections, becoming more familiar with his role in modifying tools and production cells, refining his skills in communication and CAD, and becoming familiar with future job opportunities.

 

Interesting Fact: Matt has been able to relearn a couple machining processes. He hasn’t been able to do that much at other plants.
