Our Heritage

OUT OF ADVERSITY, THE JOURNEY BEGINS

When the companies they work for move out of state, Bill Roberts, Frank Peplinski, and Jack Rochefort respond by starting their own companies. It is an example of bold thinking in the face of a challenge that will be a key component of the massive enterprise they will go on to build.

1972

LAYING THE FOUNDATIONS

Roberts and Peplinski form Lyntex Manufacturing, a small sewing operation making helmet liners. As the business grows, they see the opportunity to expand the company by sewing seatbelts for the automotive industry. Rochefort meets former customers’ insistence he continue to build their dies by purchasing Thumb Tool & Engineering.

1972

BUILDING THE GEMINI FOOTPRINT

With the success of Lyntex, Roberts and Peplinski move further into the automotive sector by creating Gemini Plastics to add blow-molded seatbelt boots to and extrusion capabilities to the sewing operation.

1977

PLANTING THE SEED FOR MASSIVE CAPABILITIES ACROSS INDUSTRIES

Gemini plants the seed for diversification into engineered tooling solutions, forming a strategic alliance with two local machine shops specializing in precision machining and toolholders: CKS Tool & Engineering and Briney Tooling Systems.

1979

CULTIVATING OUR GROWTH

As Gemini continues to expand its engineered tooling capabilities, a partnership with Axly Tool & Bushing adds production machining through the shared resources and capabilities of the two companies.

1980

MEETING NEW DEMANDS

With Gemini’s successful experience in blow molding, partnering with Thumb Plastics adds two-shot injection molding capabilities to meet the growing demand for complex plastic parts.

1983

INTO NEW MARKETS

Identifying an increasing demand for hollow plastic parts across several industries, Roberts and Peplinski form Regency Plastics in Ubly, MI, to add to the company’s blow molding capacity.

1984

FOLLOWING THE MARKET

As automotive manufacturing spreads southward, Roberts and Peplinski form Regency Plastics-El Paso (later rebranded as Sierra Plastics) in El Paso, TX to better serve the automotive market in the southern US and Mexico.

1984

SOLIDIFYING OUR POSITION

Valley Enterprises is founded in Ubly, MI, to better serve our growing customer base in automotive. Valley adds more manufacturing methods to our existing extrusion, blow molding, and injection molding capabilities to produce automotive interior trim components.

1990

OUT OF THE MANY, ONE

Realizing the opportunities offered by the scale of our shared resources and capabilities, Gemini Group is formed to bring together the engineered plastic products and engineered tooling solutions segments.

1996

FORGE TOOLING STEPS FORWARD

With a solid foundation in forge tooling, CKS and Axly merge to form Gemini Precision Machining. Later rebranded as Gemini Group's Forge Tooling business unit, the company will become the largest supplier of forge tooling to automotive Tier 1s.

2009

BEYOND BORDERS

Gemini Group moves onto the international stage with the formation of Gemini Plastics de Mexico in Saltillo, Mexico to better serve the southern regional automotive market with plastic extrusions.

2011

SOUTHERN EXPOSURE

As the southeastern US grows as a center of automotive production, Gemini Group acquires Mid-South Extrusion Die and Consolidated Tool in Muscle Shoals, AL. The acquisitions expand Gemini Group’s aluminum extrusion tooling capabilities and capacities in this promising region.

2013

MEETING NEW OPPORTUNITIES

With the explosive growth of the automotive manufacturing sector in the Southeast, Gemini Group Interior Trim is formed in Muscle Shoals, AL. The move underscores Gemini Group’s commitment to serving this regional automotive market.

2019

CONTINENTAL SERVICE

Now the second largest supplier of aluminum extrusion tooling in North America, Gemini Group acquires Tri-R Dies in Youngstown, OH, to further broaden the company’s capabilities and capacities in aluminum extrusion tooling.

2021

TRUSTWORTHINESS RECOGNIZED

When the founder of GT Plastics in Oscoda, MI, learns Gemini Group shares his values, he recognizes a company he can trust with his legacy after retirement. The acquisition of GT Plastics grows Gemini’s PVC extrusion capabilities for the building and construction industry.

2022

THE FOUNDERS’ LEGACIES CONTINUE

Gemini Group is one unified team with massive capabilities, but we never forget where we came from – three men facing unemployment as the manufacturing industry left the small rural communities they and their families called home. We forever honor their insight and determination to take an unfortunate situation and turn it into an opportunity for success. We stay true to their values of the wellbeing of our communities and our customers, integrity in all things we do, and leadership to drive positive change.
