That is why in addition to the injection molding process, Thumb Plastics also specializes in an array of additional services to help you develop your product and see it through to final production. - Design & Engineering Services - Thumb offers engineering and design support for injection molded parts and tools. As a Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier, we are comfortable serving as a design partner
- In-house Tooling Design & Maintenance - all trim tools, fixturing, and EOAT are designed and built in house and all tooling maintenance and repairs are completed by in house tool shop
- Two-shot & Multi-shot Molding - allows for the production of complex moldings from two different polymers during one machining cycle. This has the benefit of creating components with different materials and/or with multiple colors; utilizing this process allows for the creation of complex molds with a high level of accuracy and repeatability. Press sizes from 85 to 730 tons.
- Insert Molding & Over Molding - involves combining plastic or metal components in-mold creating innovative products for structural reinforcement, functional, interior, steering, and two-shot seal applications. The overmolding process can also be used to combine soft-touch, Class A surfaces with a rigid substrate.
- Secondary Operations - include plastics welding (infrared, hot plate, and ultrasonic), riveting and staking, foam and acoustic pad assembly, and injection molded part assembly
- Process Control - utilizing RJG equipment gives us the ability to monitor and control all injection molding processes
- Testing Laboratory - stringent testing is conducted before (PPAP) and throughout the injection molding process based on your part design and requirements.
